On your computer or the Laser Computer

  1. Prepare your artwork in Inkscape, Illustrator, or LightBurn (Installed on Laser Computer)
    • If you are on your own computer, save as SVG and upload it to the red link on the board.

On the Laser Computer

  1. If you've already created the artwork on your computer:
    1. download it from the red link on the board.
    2. Open LightBurn with the icon on the Desktop.
    3. If someone else left LightBurn open, make a new file (File -> New)
    4. Drag your file from Downloads (File Explorer) into the laser interface.

On the Laser

  1. Turn on Ventilation.
  2. Insert key and twist to turn on.
  3. Confirm bed is free from potential collisions, hit OK on the touchscreen to allow gantry to move.
  4. Insert material you'll be cutting or engraving.
    • Never use the laser on an unsafe material, including PVC or ABS plastics.
  5. Focus
    • Use the arrows to position the laser head over the material. Click AF at the top on the touchscreen to autofocus.

Back On the Laser Computer

  1. Click "Camera Control" (Right in the group of tabs) and "Update Overlay" to see the material on the bed.
    • If it is grayed out, change camera to None and back to to the default.
  2. Position artwork.
  3. Click "Cuts/Layers" (Right in the group of tabs)
  4. Choose appropriate settings.
  5. Final Safety Check
    1. Ventilation turned on?
    2. Focused?
    3. Anything on the laser bed that could possibly cause a collision?
  6. Risk Mitigation (Read this list before proceeding)
    1. If anything at all is wrong when the laser is on, hit the RED STOP button above touchscreen. Stop what you are doing and find the button.
    2. If there is a small fire on the laser bed, leave the lid closed. Opening it will give oxygen to the fire and it will grow. Give it time to smolder out.
    3. If there is a larger fire that may do damage to the whole laser or possibly spread outside of the laser, use the CO2 fire extinguisher. Stop what you are doing and find the extinguisher. Familiarize yourself with how to use it.
  7. Click start.
